WordPress Port Harcourt is growing, and there’s a lot that goes into keeping a community active.
From starting conversations and welcoming new members to creating social media posts and promoting community activities, there are many small but important things that need attention.
As the community organizer, I’ve been handling a lot of these responsibilities myself. But a strong community shouldn’t depend on one person doing everything.
So we’re opening up two volunteer opportunities for people who want to help us build and grow the WordPress Port Harcourt community.
1. Community Engagement Volunteer
This role is about helping people feel connected to the community, even when we’re not at an event.
You’d help with things like:
- Welcoming and engaging new members
- Starting conversations and discussions
- Sharing useful WordPress resources and opportunities
- Encouraging members to participate in community activities
- Gathering feedback, questions, and ideas from members
- Identifying topics and issues the community should talk about
- Helping keep our community spaces active
The goal: Make sure WordPress Port Harcourt doesn’t go quiet between events.
2. Social Media & Content Volunteer
This role is about helping us tell the story of WordPress Port Harcourt and keep the community visible online.
You’d help with:
- Planning social media content
- Writing and publishing posts
- Promoting meetups, WordCamp, DoAction, and other activities
- Turning community activities into social media content
- Sharing member and speaker highlights
- Repurposing photos, videos, and event moments into content
- Keeping our social media presence consistent
- Looking at what content people respond to and improving what we share
The goal: Keep WordPress Port Harcourt visible and show people what is happening in our community.
You Don’t Have to Be an Expert
We’re not looking for people who have everything figured out.
Maybe you’re naturally good at starting conversations.
Maybe you enjoy creating content or managing social media.
Maybe you’ve never volunteered with a WordPress community before but you’d like to learn.
That’s fine.
What matters most is that you’re willing to contribute, collaborate with others, and take responsibility for the area you’ve chosen.
What Happens Next?
If you’re interested, fill out the volunteer form and tell us a little about yourself, the role you’re interested in, your experience, and how you’d like to contribute.
We’ll review the applications and get in touch with selected volunteers to discuss the role and how we’ll work together.
The goal isn’t to give people more tasks.
It’s to build a community where more people have the opportunity to contribute, take ownership, and help shape what WordPress Port Harcourt becomes.
If you’ve been looking for a way to get more involved, this is your chance.
